The Board of Cultural Affairs seeks to enforce the cultural and social offers to students that are members of SiO (The Foundation for Student Life in Oslo and Akershus), by making grants to cultural and social initiatives taken by students. The Board of Cultural Affairs is made up of 11 students that are elected by the Welfare Council.
Primarily, The Board of Cultural Affairs supports students’ associations, although individuals and projects may also be given financial support. New associations may be given grants that are to support the establishment process, new equipment etc. Every year, The Board of Cultural Affairs receives and considers about 300 applications, and gives out approximately 2.9 million Norwegian kroners. These financial means are a part of the registration fee paid by students every semester.
In order for a students’ association to apply to The Board of Cultural Affairs, it needs to have its own by-laws, passed by the association’s general meeting. The by-laws must state the association’s purpose. Also, associations at the University of Oslo, must be registered on their websites.
